Hello Again

It’s basically been a year since I have even touched this blog.  With that said, my extremely relaxing summer allows me more time to not do anything, watch movies, hang out, play guitar, and I guess even surf the web and find cool gadgets / new designs in technology and everyday items.

Came across this yesterday and was super intrigued, just thought i’d share it with whoever still keeps up with this.

Here is the link to the site I discovered this on:

http://www.yankodesign.com/2007/07/10/alarming-ring/

The beauty of this alarm clock designed by Meng Fandi is that it does not make a sound at all and simply uses the ring you up on your finger at night to vibrate and wake you up!  Imagine the beauty of getting up without the annoying sound of an alarm clock or waking up your roommates while you’re at it!  I tried tracking it but this alarm clock, unfortunately, has not been up on the market yet (i bet it would cost a fortune anyway).

anyway, back to the search of an alarm clock since the one I bought from Hong Kong last year sucks at time keeping.  -_-

Late.

Wooo Hooo

This is delayed… but I survived the college process!!!! Congrats to all those who did as well, 2010 was crazy competitive.

I definitely had my share of rejections and disappointments (cough dang you private u’s) but it’s okay, coming out of it i realized I have reached all of my goals.

If you had asked me back in october what my top schools were, I would’ve gave you the whole speech about how I had divided my top schools based on various regions of the country: west-UCLA, middle- WashU in St. Louis, and east-Cornell.  Well, out of the thirteen schools I applied to, I got into 3, got waitlisted at 2 and got an offer of transfer at 1…. if you do the math… i, indeed, got loads of rejection letters and emails.

But that’s okay.  I definitely was down because of those, but then I realized not only did  i apply to mostly impossible schools during a year where it is the most competitive, but I also reached most of my goals.  I got into UCLA.  I am currently waitlisted at WashU. AND I plan on signing the form to keep the option of a “guaranteed transfer” open for Cornell. That’s all three of my tops right there. Life is good. Hard work has paid off.

Though if you ARE curious, I will probably just go to UCLA, and remain there for four years…. but who knows?

Trees make us sick…

My sixth grade science teacher Mr. Swenson once told us: Each one of us should plant at least one tree during our lives to make up for the harm we have done to the environment.

Though that might be reasonable, here is my proposal: The planting of trees harms us.

Why you may ask… I have one word for you: allergies.

As I sit here with my watery eyes and incredibly runny nose, I will explain to you why that is.  The doctor explained it all to me today why I have to suffer every year from the most intense allergies.  It is because the people who build our communities want to plant trees not only for a nicer-looking town but also to make our surroundings feel more “green” and environmentally friendly.  However, the planters never plant the female trees since they are very likely to produce various sorts of fruits that will create a hassel for the city cleaners.  Instead, they plant male trees. Of course, the male trees are the ones that release the very pollen that causes my suffering.

That is why I have one request for you all:    if and when (I suggest that you do because it does sort of make up for part of what we do to the environment) you plant that tree(s) during your lifetime, plant a female one.

One day.

This song’s usually not my style at all, but the lyrics are just so beautiful.

One Day by Matisyahu:

“sometimes in my tears I drown
but I never let it get me down
so when negativity surrounds
I know some day it’ll all turn around
because
all my life I’ve been waiting for
I’ve been praying for
for the people to say
that we don’t wanna fight no more
they’ll be no more wars
and our children will play
one day”

Enjoy!

Dear Blog,

I am so sorry I have abandoned you while I’m enjoying my senior second semester while waiting for college results.  I promise you I will not do that again.

Love,

The Perfect Burger

Marshall: Just a Burger? Just a burger. Robin, it’s so much more than “just a burger.” I mean…that first bite—oh, what heaven that first bite is. The bun, like a sesame freckled breast of an angel, resting gently on the ketchup and mustard below, flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux. And then…a pickle! The most playful little pickle! Then a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce and a…a patty of ground beef so exquisite, swirling in your mouth, breaking apart, and combining again in a fugue of sweets and savor so delightful. This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, Robin. This is God, speaking to us in food.

These wre the beautiful words said by a lovable Marshall of How I Met Your Mother.  Just thought I should share the beauty of a burger with you guys.  This scene of the show is also the reason I went to Chilis for my very own burger (Old fashion style with BBQ sauce, grilled mushrooms, crispy onions, and cheddar cheese.)

… I know… If I were you, I’d go get a burger asap too

What Californians (and the world) Should Learn From Haiti:

The natural disaster that occurred in Haiti last week was definitely one of the most tragic events that could occur within this short beginning of 2010.  As I was sitting on the couch late at night, staring at the CNN, I realized the lessons our state, if not world, should learn from this horrifying event.

1.   Be Generous.

The response and aid from people and countries across the globe are absolutely incredible to witness.  From programs that people can donate through text messages to concerts and performances put on, these efforts have truly opened my eyes to what it means to be a citizen of this world.  As I was watching the news, I realized something: this tragedy could very well occur in California in a matter of years.  Be generous with your money!  The efforts you show and the things you share in order to save others will be remembered.  When our supposedly great earthquake hits, you never know what will happen.  Perhaps one day the people you saved with your money will be sending their help and love over to you in your time of need.

2. Charge Your Cell phone!!!!!

Incredibly, after four days of being under the rubble of a collapsed building, a woman has reportedly been sending text messages to her family telling them to send rescuers to help her.  I admit: I am definitely guilty when it comes to charging my cell phone.  It had often been my policy to only charge my phone when it is almost dead.  NO.  You never know when a natural disaster, or even just a car accident or other special instance, when the only communication you have is through your phones.  You won’t know how long you’ll need it for.  Charge it often so if something occurs, you will have a phone that will last as long as possible.

3.  Though Cliché, Appreciate Life Every Single Day.

I am sure most of you have heard the saying “live like there’s no tomorrow”.  Well you never know if there WILL be a tomorrow.  Love all those around you, even the ones you really despise.  Live in the moment.  Stop thinking about what could / would / should be in your future or what should had been or should not have been in your past.  Just STOP.  Just live and soak in the very second you are experiencing.  Don’t miss out on a wonderful thing called life.

Updates!

Ever since the last post, I had been busily completing applications and enjoying the holidays.. which brings me to Happy (belated) Holidays!!!! I hope all of your Christmas/Hannukah/New Years/ other family traditions/vacations/gatherings were amazing.  I am so proud to announce that as of the middle of my winter break, I am now officially done with all applications and am patiently waiting for one of the colleges to reply. Yayyyyy!!

In other updates, my holidays were amazing. Cousins came over and had a family trip to tahoe and rented a cabin this time!! So much more fun than a hotel.  As for Christmas, I got those AWESOME Tank headphones (well, and a Glee Volume 2 CD, and other clothing items) that you might see me using when I skype you guys next year from college!

Finals are soon, but I’m sure I’ll survive. Not too bad this year.

Have a good one!

Yet another amazing headphone

By Urbanears, I especially love the series Plattan, which are extremely simple and classic headphones that has a mic, an interesting capability is a place on the actual headphone that allows another set of headphones to be plugged in… aka when you hear an awesome song, you can have your friend connect their headphones to yours and share the music.

Best part about these? They come in any colors… EVER!  My personal favorite is the white, light blue (pictured below), and the purple.

Light Blue

Best Singer/Artist of All Times:

Alicia Keys.

I challenge you to name someone more talented and cultured than her.  Seriously, her music is ridiculously amazing, always with a good chorus or beat, on top of her amazing piano skills, composition skills, and voice!!!

Not to mention, she is actually way classier than some of the other artists i like(d?)… cough cough Mr. Kanye “I ruin award shows” West.  What a disappointment…

Hope you all enjoy Veteran’s Day!!
